Our Private Tented Safari Camp in Knuckles Mountain range is a true breakaway from the routined city atmosphere; breath fresh air and take in a truly pristine surrounding.

Set in completely isolated conditions, the Explorer by Mahoora campsite is a wanderlust dream. The sounds of flowing waters in the nearby steam create the ambience for the campsite, while the private rock pool entices guests to enjoy a dip after a trail. If that’s not enough, just stroll around and you will be overwhelmed by the picturesque landscape that overlooks part of Manigala. 

Shrouded by the canopy of majestic trees that tends to cut the flood of bright sunlight, the tented accommodation gives you the kind of comfort and privacy you need after a glorious day outdoors. Come rain, and the tropical downpour creates an excitement amongst the inhabitants of the forest. The unison of sounds from birds, frogs and insects is a sound unlike anything else you would have ever heard before.  

The campsite creates a relaxing setting, to make you feel at home - to relax and recover after trekking the Knuckles Mountain range. The chef’s signature herbal porridge made with three vital herbs based on an ancient recipe, which the locals confirm as a dish that ensures vitality and endurance, is just what you need to re-energise. In addition, look forward to experiencing a culinary journey that engages both local cuisine and international favourites.

Our dedication to detail extends to Explorer by Mahoora accommodation, with a spacious tent ((15.6’x8’) serviced with a living area, bedroom and an en-suite bathroom, along with a private veranda/porch outside the tent. A tent designed to give you comfort, it comes carpeted and in rustic vibrant hues of colour - surrounded by the chilly winds and sounds of the Knuckles Mountain range.

Schedule for Day 2

• Back to the Campsite by late morning
• Departure

• tent (15.6’x8’) with accommodation, an en-suite bathroom, and a veranda/porch.
• Tented accommodation with raised beds with freshly laundered bed linen and a bedside table.
• Fully-sealed tent with ventilation nets.
• Veranda/porch is equipped with a shoe rack, two foldable arm chairs and a small coffee table.
• One rechargeable table top fan is provided in the bedroom tent.
• A rechargeable lantern is provided for illumination.

• En-suite flushable toilet with pipe-borne water, wash basin, and shower area.
• Toiletries on complimentary basis.

• All entry permits and government taxes for the entire stay, are taken care of.
• Vehicle transfers for trails are included.
• A guide is provided for trails and trekking.
• Complimentary picnic, including water snacks for trails, will be provided.
• Full Day trails start from the camp after an early breakfast - 8.00 a.m. and finish by around 4.00 p.m.
• Half Day trails that are scheduled for mornings will end by late afternoon and lunch will be served at the Campsite. Half Day afternoon trails begin after lunch and continue till dusk when guests return for a late tea around 6.30 p.m. followed by dinner.

• Pre-dinner wine and beer around the campfire.
• For breakfast, Continental and Sri Lankan dishes including fresh juices are available.
• Freshly prepared Sri Lankan lunch at the camp.
• Five course dinner menu with signature dishes including a BBQ around the campfire.
• Unlimited tea/coffee, fresh fruits, snacks, juices, soft drinks, and water will be provided.

• Attire that facilitates climbing, trail walks are recommended
• Sunscreen and insect repellents are necessary items to carry.
• Leech socks and raincoats are provided, however you may carry your own
• The nights and early morning hours in Knuckles Mountain Range can get chilly, therefore you are advised to carry light jackets to keep yourself warm.
• A light backpack to carry on the trails.

• Special dinner settings in the camp are arranged. Each meal will be given at a carefully selected location with a unique illuminated setting.
• Snacks are provided at the lounge/common area.
• Emergency phones are provided per tent (on signal availability).
• Limited opportunities for charging mobiles, laptop and digital camera charging. Clients are advised to have stand by options.

• Children of any age are welcome.
• Only one extra bed can be accommodated in a Tent [Totaling a maximum of 3 single beds]
• Please refer to the child policy in the rate card for the rates and supplements.
• If there are 2 or more children where 50% of the per person adult rate is applicable, an additional tent will be provided at an extra charge.

• Air-conditioning is not available.
